People experiencing homelessness discharged from the hospital often don’t have a safe and supportive place to recuperate. Wound care, mobility challenges, oxygen and other medical devices makes returning to the street or congregate shelter much more difficult. Working with local hospitals and STRIDE Community Health Center, R3 will provide medically supported individual rooms for up to 30 days with comprehensive supports. This will include access to case management, 3 meals/day, individual and group counseling, storage, mail, laundry/shower. Respite clients will also receive discharge planning and transition assistance into a more stable housing environment.
Navigating the complex system of medical, mental health, employment, education and housing can be overwhelming. R3 offers comprehensive services in a community-based, supportive environment under one roof. Centrally located, the R3 Center provides access to basic needs such as food, shower, laundry, storage and mail service. Additionally, anyone referred or who drops in will have access to case management and housing navigation services and supports. In collaboration with other local service providers, guests will have direct access and linkage to mental health and primary health care.
At the heart of its mission, RecoveryWorks is there to create opportunities for recovery – in its many forms: from addiction, impacts of homelessness including physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual trauma. The R3 center offers 1:1 and group counseling “on demand.” Curriculum-based, 12-step and other addiction recovery groups, and a safe place to be and become reconnected with a healing community.
Engaging our un-housed neighbors in getting vaccinated is challenging for a multitude of reasons: lack of trust, misunderstanding about the virus/vaccine, etc. And those who do agree to the first dose often don’t follow up with the second. In collaboration with Jefferson County Public Health, the R3 center will provide on-site vaccination clinic hours to meet this need in a safe and supportive environment.
We offer appointments for intake, assessment, comprehensive case management, housing navigation, direct services and referrals. Guests from the morning drop-in Resource and Recovery component are identified each day for a same-day afternoon meeting with a case manager. Or guests can call and schedule an afternoon case management appointment.
Access to primary healthcare is critical for unhoused persons. According the National Coalition for the Homeless, individuals living on the street have a life expectancy that is 20 years less than those with homes. STRIDE Community Health offers free, on-site access to primary health care during our Thursday morning drop in hours for any of our unhoused neighbors.
